Flowers In My Garden – Hemerocallis Crimson Pirate

Hemerocallis ‘Crimson Pirate’ aka Daylily.

I went out and took alot of pictures one evening after it had been raining. None of them turned out very well apart from this one. I was playing with extension tubes to get in a little closer than the lens could focus.

I composed the picture by hand and then placed a tripod in the correct place. I took a test shot sans flash to get the background nice and dark. I turned the flash on and used TTL to get a flash exposure of ‘0’. The overhanging flash was facing away from the flower (pointing up) and the silver umbrella reflecting back to the flower and a little bit of the surrounding foliage.

In Post, the greens were pulled back a little to fade them into the background a little.
